Prayer Idea

Pray for the people of Puerto Rico.

History Note

The Caribbean island of Puerto Rico was part of the Spanish Empire for centuries. It became a territory of the United States in 1898 after the Spanish-American War.

The United States government appointed the governor of Puerto Rico until 1948. Then the people of the island held an election. Luis Muñoz Marín won the election and became governor on January 2, 1949. He was re-elected three times, serving for a total of sixteen years.
