History Note
Neil Gorsuch was born in Denver, Colorado, on August 29, 1967. He moved to Washington, D.C. as a teenager, when his mother, Anne Gorsuch, became the administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency.
Gorsuch attended Columbia University, Harvard Law School (with future president Barack Obama), and Oxford University. He clerked for federal judge David Sentelle and for Supreme Court Justices Byron White and Anthony Kennedy.
After a time in private practice, Gorsuch joined the U.S. Department of Justice before President George W. Bush nominated him to be a federal judge in 2006. He also taught at the University of Colorado Law School.
President Donald Trump nominated him to the Supreme Court in 2017, and the Senate confirmed him 54-45.
Justice Gorsuch and his wife have two daughters.
