History Note
Soichiro Honda was born in 1906 in a village in Japan. His father was a blacksmith. He learned to be an auto mechanic and opened his own garage.
Honda incorporated the Honda Motor Company in 1948. He brought on a business partner, Takeo Fujisawa, to focus on sales and marketing. The company just built motorcycles at first. Honda begin producing automobiles in the 1960s.
Honda and Fujisawa retired from the company in 1973. Soichiro Honda enjoyed watching his company grow until his death in 1991.
Today Honda has manufacturing facilities in Japan, the United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Peru, France, Italy, Spain, Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana, China, Thailand, Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippines, Vietnam, Australia, and Taiwan. In addition to motorcycles and cars, the company makes ATVs, lawn mowers, snow blowers, marine engines, and even airplanes!
