History Note

Amy Coney Barrett was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on January 28, 1972. She attended Rhodes College and Notre Dame Law School.

She clerked for federal judge Laurence H. Silberman and for Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. After two years in private practice, she became a law professor at Notre Dame.

President Trump nominated Barrett to be a federal judge in 2017 and then to the Supreme Court in 2020. The Senate confirmed her 52-48.

Justice Barrett and her husband have four daughters and three sons.
