January 13: National Geographic Society Founded (1888)

Prayer Idea

Pray that people who are engaged in scientific exploration will recognize God’s eternal power and divine nature (Romans 1:20).

History Note

On January 13, 1888, a group of 33 explorers and scientists met in Washington, D.C., to form a society focused on increasing and sharing geographical knowledge.

Since its founding, the National Geographic Society has funded 15,000 grants for scientific work on all seven continents and produced a magazine, films, and other educational resources.
