January 11: Leonard Thompson Receives Insulin (1922)

Prayer Idea

Pray for people who have diabetes.

History Note

In the early 20th century, people who developed diabetes faced imminent death with no available treatments. Frederick Banting, Charles Best, James Collip, and John Macleod at the University of Toronto in Canada developed the product known as insulin. A 13-year-old child named Leonard Thompson became the first person to receive insulin as a treatment for diabetes on January 11, 1922.
